On a professional note: Arlene Zimmerly, professor emerita at Los Angeles City College, has coauthored Gregg College Keyboarding and Document Processing since the 8th Edition. Arlene is also lead author on Glencoe Keyboarding Connections, a middle-school textbook for Glencoe/McGraw-Hill that covers computer basics, keyboarding, word processing, desktop publishing, spreadsheet, database, and communications.

In addition to teaching keyboarding online, Web page design, and word processing at LACC in the Computer Applications and Office Technologies Department, your author pioneered the curricula for many of the most innovative courses taught in her department, including several online courses. She served as the Web administrator and computer lab coordinator for her department and maintained several departmental Web sites, which were granted the LACCD Excellence in Workforce Development Award for 2005 for Creative Use of Instructional Technology. During her tenure as vice chairperson, she staffed over thirty courses each semester. Her past teaching experience includes positions at several community colleges, California State University at Los Angeles, Sawyer College of Business, Moon Valley High School, and Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institute.

Arlene earned her M.A. in Business Education at CSULA where she was selected Outstanding Graduate Student in Business/Office Education. She is a noted speaker on the topics of distance education, keyboarding, and office systems and technology.

On a personal note: I'm happiest when I'm traveling, hiking, or out on a dance floor dancing the night away. I cut my dancing teeth in the salsa world, and now enjoy West Coast Swing, Country Two-Step, Nightclub Two-Step, and a few ballroom dances.

I live in Valencia, California, and have two beautiful children who live in San Francisco and Ventura. Life is good and all is well—I have much to be grateful for!
